Personas explained

A persona is the lens through which FedGrade synthesizes your daily Brief. The same underlying research library produces a different paragraph for a capture lead than for an agency CIO because the prompts and retrieval bias differ. Personas are not feature gates — they are output-shaping defaults.

The four shipped personas

  • Capture. For contractors chasing federal civilian opportunities. The Brief leads with pre-RFP signals, vehicle-fit notes, and incumbent posture.
  • BD / sales VP. For sellers managing a pipeline across multiple agencies. The Brief leads with pursuit-state diffs, win rates, and competitor moves.
  • Agency CIO. For government CIOs and modernization leads. The Brief leads with peer-agency procurements, OMB memo cadence, and budget-cycle context.
  • Investor. For gov-tech investors and corp-dev teams. The Brief leads with company-level signal — funding rounds, leadership changes, contract awards.

When to add more personas

You can run more than one persona at a time. Add a second persona when the same person plays two roles — e.g., a capture lead who also briefs the CEO weekly might run capture + investor, with two Briefs landing daily.

Each persona costs nothing extra on Pro and above. Free tier allows one persona at a time.

How the daily Brief uses the persona

When the Brief is synthesized, the persona controls three things:

  1. System prompt. Each persona has a tuned prompt at xref-{persona}-v1.5 that shapes voice and topic priority.
  2. Retrieval variant. Search and retrieval are biased toward source types the persona cares about — capture pulls more notices and pre-RFP signals, investor pulls more filings.
  3. Citation density. Investor and CIO Briefs cite at sentence level; capture and BD Briefs cite at paragraph level because the action items matter more than the source provenance.

Changing personas

Edit at /settings/personas. Changes apply to the next morning's Brief; the current day's Brief is not regenerated.

If none of the shipped personas fit, Enterprise+ workspaces can author custom persona prompts at /settings/personas/custom — see custom personas docs (coming soon).
